The master's thesis seeks to demonstrate the usage of phraseological units (idioms) in the German novel with the title Schwindel (slov. Vrtoglavica) of the German writer Kristina Dunker and their translations in the Slovene language translated by Seta Oblak. On the basis of a comparison between the German basic source and the Slovene translation of the phraseological units, the master's thesis attempts to show various ways of translating the Phraseological units in German and Slovene. In this context, the emphasis is mainly on the presentation of the diversity of the use of the phraseological units in both languages. The master's thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical part and the empirical part. In the theoretical part, concepts such as phraseology, phraseological units and the way how these units are translated. In the second, empirical part, concrete examples of translations of phraseological units from the original language to the target language in the novel are presented.
