The aim of master’s thesis was to explore the connection between social competences and subjective well-being with emphasis on the case study of individuals in ZDŠ (marital and family studies) and ZDT (marital and family therapy) programs. Programs aim to prepare students for working with people for which social and emotional competencies are necessary for quality work of counsellors and therapists.
In the theoretical part, we explored social competences, tried to find the best definition, got to know how society values them and when and how can we develop them. A vital part of the chapter is explaining how social and emotional competencies have been seen during the last 50 years. In the second half of the theoretical part, we explored well-being which can also be defined in various ways. As scientists, we also looked at how well-being is measured and how it is present in today's pedagogical, organizational and other parts of society.
The empirical included 134 people, 98 men and 35 women. With the use of multidimensional questionnaire of social competences, we found out that individuals that got a better score on social competences scored higher also on subjective well-being as well as family well-being. The case study of students of ZDŠ and ZDT programs has shown that they are more socially competent than the control group, which confirms that they are more competent for working with people.
