Abstract

Title:The Slovene Museum of Christianity. The Formation and Placing of its Fine Art Collection into A Permanent Exhibition and A Comparison with The Former Diocesan Museum in Maribor.
Abstract:
The main subject of the thesis is The Slovene Museum of Christianity. Its history is to a great extent related to the active collaboration of the Cistercian Order in Stična, more precisely with abbot dr. Anton Nadrah. In the early eighties, under specific conditions and restrictions, a part of the building was returned to the monastery and the Slovene Museum of Christianity was beginning to establish. In 2006, the museum became a public institution under the governance and with the financial aid of the Slovenian government. In the meantime, the fine art collection of sacral art did not stop growing. Today the fine art collection is a part of the permanent exhibition where it plays an important but diverse role. Almost a hundred years before the establishment of The Slovene Museum of Christianity, the former Diocesan Museum in Maribor was also connected to the Church, more precisely the lavantine diocese where they recognized the value of preserving sacral art.
