Abstract

Title:Comparison between Public institution and Non-governmental Institution in the Case of Two Slovenian Youth Centres
Abstract:
Nowadays, youth centres in Slovenia are plentiful, working as non-profit organizations and they play an important part in ensuring the existence of youth programmes in the local and wider communities. The non-profit sphere of organizations in Slovenia consists of public and private institutions, the latter including societies. In this thesis, two youth centres, of which one works as a public institution and the other as a non-governmental, are analysed with regard to their similarities and differences in their internal organizational structure, funding, employees and the content of the activities they offer. Since I was a part of two youth centres during my time at university, my presence at the programmes and workshops, as well as the advice of youth workers and time I spent with adolescents, made me recognise the importance of providing the youth with a safe space, informal learning, socialising, taking part in activities and making programmes with the youth and for the youth, which I find especially crucial.
