Abstract
Polimeri so materiali, ki lajšajo življenje, vendar smo s temi materiali že močno onesnažili naš planet. Biopolimeri so materiali prihodnosti, saj so nekateri biorazgradljivi in imajo veliko manjši vpliv na okolje kot navadna plastika. Biopolimer je polimer, ki je ali pridobljen iz obnovljivega vira ali je biorazgradljiv, tako da niso vsi biopolimeri razgradljivi. V diplomskem delu so naprej biopolimeri razdeljeni glede na izvor, nato pa še glede na strukturo ter njihove značilnosti. Nato so opisani še različni načini razgradnje biopolimernih odpadkov. Na koncu pa so še opisani postopki razgradnje posameznih polimerov v odvisnosti od strukture.

Abstract:
Polymers are materials that make life easier for us, but with these materials we have already polluted our planet. Biopolymers are materials of the future, since some of them are biodegradable and have much smaller impact on the environment than regular plastics. The biopolymer is a polymer that is either derived from a renewable source or biodegradable, so all biopolymers are not biodegradable. In the diploma thesis, biopolymers are classified according to their origin and according to their structure. For each group the most typical characteristics are described, followed by a description of different ways of degradation processes of biopolymer waste. In the end, the degradation of individual polymers in connection to the structure is presented.
