Abstract

Title:Plečnik’s urban plan for the northern part of Ljubljana
Abstract:
The municipality of Ljubljana started to question about the regulation of the Ljubljana’s northern part at the end of 19th Century. A lot of regulation plans were done by different architects, however, they all remained unrealized. In the seminar thesis, I will focus on the regulation plan by Jože Plečnik. The study of the Ljubljana’s northern part regulation Plečnik published in the magazine Home and world (Dom in svet) in 1929. The study included a plan and a short commentary where Plečnik described his idea of the plan. Until then a modest urbanized part of the city, Plečnik wanted to turn into a district, which would overcome all important functions of the city. The ground plan was constructed as a fan-like road net, which bordered Dunajska Road to the west and railway to the east. The main spine of the district was presented by Linhart Road where the most important cultural and administrative buildings were situated. By the main road, he projected blocks of flats, the rest of the area was meant for terraced houses and individual buildings. He included a lot of green areas in the plan and therefore actualized his idea of a residential district in greenery.
