The practical part of my composition is a video installation titled Duration and Presence. It focuses on lights and shadows because I want to direct our gaze on all that, which is seemingly insignificant but can stimulate people's awareness of the importance of their psychophysical presence in an ongoing moment and space, and can also teach us to look at the world in a different way.
In the theoretical part I reflect on that sphere of being where nothing exceptional is taking place, entailing many a thing that might superficially be denoted as emptiness, yet precisely these slight moments, if we manage to perceive them, constitute the fullness of our lives. Among other things, I proceed from Maurice Merleau-Ponty's concept of »the visible and the invisible«, contemplations on the duration of time by Henri Bergson, reflections on space by Gaston Bachelard, musings on time by the filmmaker Andrei Tarkowsky and on the Japanese notion of wabi sabi that honours all that is fleeting, imperfect and incomplete; I also take a look at the works of few artists who in their works deal with the meaning of man's temporal-spatial cognizance.
