Abstract

Title:The Concept of Desire (Ta䡇hā) in the Dhammapada
Abstract:
This BA thesis describes the nature of desire in Theravāda Buddhism. The notion of desire (ta䡇hā) is a central Buddhist concept. In the context of the four noble truths, desire is defined as the cause of unpleasantness and suffering (dukkha) and the cycle of rebirths (sa䡃sāra). The thesis focuses on the understanding of desire in the Dhammapada, one of the most well-known texts of the Buddhist Pāli Canon of Theravāda Buddhism.
