The master's work describes the history, usage and production of mineral stone wool. The production consists of several successive processes, such as: raw materials storage, batching, melting, fiberizing, binder application, formation of primary wool fibres, formation of secondary fibres, binder polymerization, cutting and packaging of final products.
The melting process in the shaft cupola furnace, the raw materials, the coke production, the reactions in the furnace, the flue gas treatment and the emissions into the environment are described in more detail.
In the experimental work, a comparative mass and energy balance of two European foundry cokes was done.
From the results of the balances and energy efficiency, we can conclude which coke is more appropriate in the stone wool melting process.
