Self-injury is a behaviour, which it can be in different forms presented among all people, no matter sex, age, social-economical status, religion or education. In my master degree I have focused on phenomena of on purpose self-injury among female adolescent, settled in educational institution. Female adolescent are more introvert orientated while resolving conflicts in contrary of a male adolescent. Conflicts with which are confronted female adolescents are handled in different forms that peer of an opposite sex. Also in different researches we can see that self-injury is more often between female adolescents, which is the reason that I have focused only on gentle sex, but it doesn’t mean, of course, that we cannot notice such a behaviour among male adolescents.
According to experts is self-injury behaviour still a burning problem among adolescents. This phenomenon is according to the literature poorly researched and very complex. In theoretical part I will focused on explaining self-injury behavior in details and auto-aggression behavior, since self-injury is a part of it. Self-injury behavior normally appears in the period of adolescence. This is a reason why I have focused only on period of adolescence since this is a time when there are more risk factors and conflicts in a different spheres of life. Those factors are well interpreted in my master degree. I have also made classification, meaning and function of self-injury concept.
In theoretical part I have research domestic and foreign literature to represent self-injury phenomena. I gained a deeper insight into self-destructive behavior of female adolescents. I have also defined concepts of conduct and emotional disorder, which girls are dealing with. Empirical part of my master degree is a qualitative study. Qualitative studies are useful when trying to understand deeply those individuals who practice self-injury behavior. Using in-depth interview method with six female adolescents I have gained insight into their world and understand them better.
