Abstract

Title:The Dramatizations of Children's Books Written by Svetlana Makarovič
Abstract:
In the centre of this master's thesis is the analysis of the process of dramatization of children's literature. All the works were performed on Slovenian stages during the season of 2018/19 and were originally written by Makarovič. The main point of the research was to determine how a certain literary work, which was originally not meant to be performed, changes during the dramatization process into a play that affects children as well as adults. The following works were analysed: Sapramiška ("Sapramouse"), Korenčkov palček ("Carrot Dwarf"), Kosovirja na leteči žlici ("Cosies on the Flying Spoon"), Sovica Oka ("Oka the Owl"), Sapramišja sreča ("Sapramouse’s Luck") and Škrat Kuzma dobi nagrado ("Kuzma the Gremlin Wins a Prize"). The analysis showed that dramatizations and, consequently, the performances of individual literary works are very similar to each other and that the main elements of all plays are music and humour. In most of the works, there is a reduction of characters and events, in some cases, the characters which are only mentioned in the original, get bigger roles. The most important part of the dramatic texts are the dialogues that are appropriately expanded and usually derived from the literary material. All the works are rich with messages and are aimed at both children and adults, which is a typical feature of Makarovič's literature for children.
