The Master's thesis focuses on the activities of the Teutonic Order's House in Ljubljana between the 16th and the 18th century. It discusses the landed property of the Order in Ljubljana, following its roots back to the 13th century. The Teutonic Order's House gained several estates as well as tax and legal immunities during the Late Medieval Period. Difficulties within the Teutonic Knight Order itself and the tense relationship between the Order and the city of Ljubljana in the »interim« 15th century marked a significant turning point. At the same time they formed the basis for further development. The critical circumstances in the Order lingered on. Common instability across Europe is reflected in the political, religious and military events in the 16th and 17th century. In the Early Modern Period the two leading individuals of the Order attempted to revive the crusade tradition, but the attempt failed due to lack of interest and funds. The considerable debt which afflicted the Ljubljana commandry in the middle of the 17th century reflects the accumulated problems from the past. In relation to the period between 1648 and 1662 the thesis aims to shed some light on the debts of the commandry the basis of the archival material kept in the Archive of the Republic of Slovenia. Along with the so far unpublished archives, I consulted the academic literature regarding the rent-rolls of the Ljubljana House written in 1490 and in 1738.
