In the 19th century, missionaries were not only witnesses of religion, but also very important explorers of new geographical places and different cultures of non-European civilizations. They also play an important role in the light of colonialism, as they changed cultural patterns of tribes and often prepared the ground for the subsequent mass migration of European people. In the place where they worked, they mostly gained a high position in society and had a reputation. In this way, evangelization was easier than witnessing faith in the spirit of poorness. However, as cultures were different in different parts of the world, were missions also different. That is why I decided to study and compare two very important missions for Slovenians, the mission of Friderik Baraga in North America and the mission of Ignacij Knoblehar in Africa. The task was therefore compared in terms of purpose, methods, success, approach to the natives, the effects on the colonization of new places, and finally, with the help of newspaper articles from their period of operation, I described and compared the echoes of their missions in the homeland. Throughout the mission, I noticed many differences between the missions and also some similarities. In newspaper articles, there was noticeable pride in the two great personalities at the time, and I also noticed differences in reporting between different newspapers.
