Abstract
Diplomsko delo analizira sedem proznih del Luize Pesjak in podaja statistične podatke o reprezentaciji ženskih in moških likov v besedilih. V analizo smo vključili naslednja dela: Beatin dnevnik, Dragotin, Iz mojega detinstva, Moja zvezdica, Očetova ljubezen, Popotni spomini in Rahela. Pri pisanju diplomske naloge smo se opirali na članka Jonathana Gottschalla The Beauty Myth is no Myth in The Heroine with a Thousand Faces, ki sta bila objavljena v časopisu Human Nature ter v knjigi Literature, Science, and a New Humanities, in študijo Igorja Žunkoviča Reprezentacija spola pri prejemnikih nagrade kresnik, objavljeno v Slavistični reviji.

Title:The Representation of Female and Male Literary Characters in the Works of Luiza Pesjak
Abstract:
The dissertation concentrates on the analysis of seven prose works written by Luiza Pesjak and also presents statistical data concerning the representation of male and female characters in the texts. The following works have been included in the analysis: Beatin dnevnik, Dragotin, Iz mojega detinstva, Moja zvezdica, Očetova ljubezen, Popotni spomini and Rahela. When writing my dissertation, the articles The Beauty Myth is no Myth and The Heroine with a Thousand Faces, both by Jonathan Gottschall, served as my main references. They were both published in the newspaper Human Nature and in the book Literature, Science, and a New Humanities. In addition to the before-mentioned articles, we also relied heavily on the study Reprezentacija spola pri prejemnikih nagrade kresnik (The Representation of Gender in the Recipients of the Kresnik Prize) by Igor Žunkovič, published in Slavistična revija (Slavic Review Ljubljana). We analysed the research in detail in the theoretical part of the thesis, while in the methodological work we focused on the descriptions of the appearance and personality of male and female characters and the relationship between the female and male protagonists. By comparing the results of the analysis of the prose works of Luiza Pesjak and Josip Jurčič we wanted to discern possible similarities and differences in the description of literary characters. Thus, in the dissertation we firstly made an overview of Luiza Pesjak’s life and works and then summarised the analysed works. A thorough analysis of the seven prose works, which was based on the studies by Jonathan Gottschall and Igor Žunkovič, followed. The obtained results were compared with the results of the analysis of Josip Jurčič’s literary opus. The latter ones were presented in Nika Jančič’s dissertation Ženska in moška lepota v Jurčičevih delih (The Beauty Myth in collected works of Josip Jurčič). In conclusion, we presented the main findings of our study and confirmed or refuted certain premises which we had set before the beginning of this dissertation.
