Abstract

Title:The role of workplace stress in leisure time activities: a comparison of modern women
Abstract:
The modern way of life of an individual confronts him with many demands, which in turn introduce a lot of stress and influences the quality of our lives, work performance, consequently even the people whom we are living with. Women in comparison to men, still experience a larger conflict between the work and personal lives. At the work place as well as in personal life, they encounter larger obstacles, that are connected to unequal treatment at the workplace, unequal division of household chores as well as a lack of time for quality leisure time. In this Master’s thesis we have conducted a comparison of a sample of 10 adult women with children and women without children, through a series of half - structured interviews. Through the research we tried to find out which group of women dealt with work related stress in a better way, what kinds of influences it has on personal life and furthermore, what kind of influence it has on the quality of leisure time. The analysis revealed that workplace related stress immensely influences the leisure time of women. The subjects report of increased fatigue, absent-mindedness, irritability and more. It also showed that, women with children usually are better organized than women without children, which means that they are forced to plan their leisure time ahead, with the partner also playing a big role. The key finding that this research has led to, is that the perceptions of stress and the consequent influences on personal lives are not necessarily conditioned by the family size, rather than the company which the person is employed at as well as the field of work that she conducts.

Keywords:Key words: stress in the workplace, leisure time, coordination of work and personal life, women.
