Abstract

Title:
SOCIO-ECONOMIC VIEWPOINTS OF OPERATION OF NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THE CASE OF AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
Abstract:
The topic of my graduate thesis is functioning and main income sources of nongovernmental organizations in the case of Amnesty international Slovenia. It’s main problem is distrust from the public and therefore lack of funding. The aim of this paper is to research weather the nongovernmental organizations truly work for the good of people in need, what is the public perception of Amnesty international; who influences the functioning of said organization, what are its sources of income and what it could improve to increase its recognition in Slovenia and the world. Our method of choice was a questionnaire. We wanted to include different age groups and find their reasons for not having trust in and not donating to nongovernmental organizations and what holds people back from trusting in them. Through our research we came to a conclusion that Slovenians have very little trust in the operation of Amnesty International. Next we found that public trust in the nongovernmental organizations have been on decline for the past few years which is due to media reporting unverified information, and that people think that nongovernmental organizations too often hide their business practices. The thesis presents the issue of todays society, especially its attitude towards nongovernmental organizations. Despite AI being one of the most established nongovernmental organizations in the world and having almost no competition from other nongovernmental organizations, they are still facing challenges and need improvements in order to secure their spot as a stable and trustworthy organization.
