The motif of foreigner in the novels Newcomers and The Reality of Lojze Kovačič
Lojze Kovačič is one of the most famous writers of autobiography in Slovenia. I focused on two of his works, Newcomers and Reality. Beside the label autobiographical, the novel could also be labeled as modernist, therefore I described the characteristics of a modernist novel at the beginning of my graduation work. Especially interesting is the choice of narrative technique and storyteller, because the unreliable narrator and puzzling description are not often found in Slovene literature. The main part of this assignment is the motif of foreignness, which is present in most of his works, since the author wrote about his own life, when he often felt as a stranger, during his constant migrations. The final part of the assignment applies to the autobiographical novel, the motif of growing up and the language of the protagonist Bubi in the novel Newcomers.
