Abstract

Title:ANALYSIS OF THE CAUSES AND MOTIVES OF EMIGRATION FROM SLOVENIA
Abstract:
Migrations are a phenomenon that can be easily detected all around the world. In some countries emigration is dominant, in others immigration, but in both cases we are referring to migration either within the country, interstate migration or even intercontinental migration. In the last years migration has been a burning topic in Slovenia also, both immigration and emigration. Many people, mostly foreigners, have immigrated to the country, but at the same time a lot of Slovenians have emigrated. We dare to claim that most of them only want a better life. The main purpose of this thesis was just this – to figure out and present reasons that affect the decision of individuals to emgirate from Slovenia. We achieved this goal by using a survey questionnaire and by comparison with already existing research done in other countries. From the research we found out that most of the respondents left the country due to a job, either already certain job or in the hope od finding one while abroad. This means that most of the people who leave are either young or most capable to work, so the country is rapidly losing its workforce. Also important finding is that most people plan to stay in the coutry of immigration more than 4 years, which means that they are most likely not planning to return. It is a big loss for the country that the majority of them are emigrating only after the end of schooling, because the country itself invests resources in the education of people who then redeem their knowledge somewhere else. I also presented the history of migration in Slovenia as well as fluctuation of the number of emigrants in a chosen period.
