In the thesis I indirectly deal with designing the book, but directly the theme of my diploma thesis is connected with designing different typographic manipulations of certain parts of the text of the novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. For the means of design I chose the manipulation of the text and it’s parts (parts of the individual characters, characters, words, paragraphs). My goal is to design a book with certain design interventions, which improve the readers experience. Through the thesis I presented the characteristics of classical book designing, the examples of similar designing interventions within different literary material, the process of the analysis of the chosen text and the selection of the appropriate literary sections and their suitable designing treatment. The thesis also deals with designing page breaks in general and with the comprehension of a book as an object from the user’s as well as designer’s point of view.
