Abstract

Title:Marshal Boroević: untold Knight of the Soča river
Abstract:
Svetozar Boroević was the only southern Slav, who received field marshal title in Austro-Hungarian army. During the First World War, he was known as a very competent commander and he received all the credits for keeping Italian army at the river Soča. When the war ended, all of his possessions were taken from him and he was left without a home country, due to his beliefs and loyalty to Austro-Hungarian Empire, which was not in accordance with new political regime established after the war. Slovenians had different feelings towards this general, who was not one of theirs, but he was the one who defended their country against Italian occupation and destruction during the war. There is variety of different opinions about First World War and Svetozar Boroević in current times, when some of his legacies are being restored.
