Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, itchy, inflammatory skin disorder. It seems, according to literature data, that the percentage of children who are suffering from this disorder is increasing every year. Eczema is the most obvious sign of this disease, which is usually observed first. In addition, infants and children suffering from this disorder have also frequent accompanying allergies that sometimes disappear over the years. Atopic dermatitis is usually treated with topical steroids, and the affected skin is nourished with emollients.
Parents of children with severe forms of atopic dermatitis have told us, which emollients, according to their personal experience, are more, and which less appropriate, and then we studied them in more details. In most cases, they have reported corticosteroid treatment and problems in finding the most suitable emollient to nourish the effected skin areas of their children. That is why we have tried to resolve this obvious problem with the help of data found in professional literature.
In this diploma work, we are presenting both, the already established or the most commonly used treatments and methods for alleviation of atopic dermatitis, and also alternative approaches, in particular those using natural nourishing cosmetic products. In the end we describe the latest findings and potential solutions in this area, which are still in the development or testing phases.
