Migration is known as movement of people from one place to another. We use two different terms when talking about moving between countries. Emigration represents leaving the country, while immigration indicates moving to the country. We know inter-regional migration, intra-EU and extra-EU migration. Migration is influenced by economic, demographic, social and political factors. How migration affects the hosting country depends on their integration policy, but migration certainly present major challenges for every country. Integration policies are important to mitigate the economic, fiscal and social consequences of migration. The consequences can be positive or negative. In the European Union, integration policies are in the domain of individual Member States, so the consequences are different from one country to another. In 2015, the European Union experienced a huge wave of immigrants. The number of asylum seekers in the EU exceeded one million a year in 2015 and 2016, for the first time since World War II.
