With the development of photography and technology, it may seem that analogous is worn out and unusable, but with the help of digital, analogous can become popular again. Digitization of analogue is not only interesting for digitizing old analogue films left by our grandfathers, but because many young people are interested in analogue photography. It is more cost efficient and eco friendly for young people to digitize films, than to expose each individual film on paper.
The theoretical part of the thesis provides a brief history of the photographic process and its media all the way to the analogue film, a technical description of it, and some examples of its digitization, from amateur to professional methods.
In the experimental part, the thesis focuses on the digitization of colour analogue film, in particular using a flatbed scanner and a DSLR camera, as well as post-editing them. Finally, a comparision between the two techniques follows, where it is found that digitization using a flatbed scanneer is objectively and visually superior.
The main goals of the thesis are: (a) to present the field of analogue photography and its digitization, (b) digitizing a color analogue film using two techniques, and (c) perform a comparision and analysis of both techniques.
