Reality television and teamwork may not have much in common at first sight. However, if we take a closer look at both concepts, we can recognize that the common ground of both is neoliberalism, an ideology that justifies and emphasizes the value of the market and demolishes the society or any other institutionalized force that might be contrary to it. Teamwork as a system of paid work was recognized again in the times when companies were searching for a solution that would make them more adaptable and be more productive. Teamwork has also been recognized as a way to make employees more motivated and affiliated with the company. Without a doubt, formal organizations do need structured control for their success. So, the companies which do not use computer monitoring can do that with the right form of work – with the teamwork which definitely can be seen as a form of surveillance – an external authority which is not only invisible but also imperceptible and ubiquitous for the team members on many occasions. With the analysis of the answers of people who are employed in Slovenia, we were researching the presence of teamwork, surveillance, feeling of being monitored, the relationship to teamwork, and recognizing and perceiving of characteristics which originate also from the teams in the reality show Big Brother. We focused on the external authority which is presented in a working environment in the form of “knowing and sharing the company’s values”. We also prepared a report including correlations between the listed variables and demographic data.
