Maksimilijan Držečnik (1903–1978), PhD, led the local Church during the period of big social changes and theological searches in the pre and post-council era. The analysis of his doctoral dissertation gives us a new look at the theological form of his personality. He appears as an extremely insightful thinker who can expertly consider and prove the basic Christological-theological dilemmas. The study of classical theology and monitoring modern theological streams, trained him as a good professor of philosophy and biblical literature, a wise leader of the Maribor-Lavantian diocese in turbulent post-war and post-council years, an original theologian at the Second Vatican Council, and a worthy successor to Bishop Slomšek, who recognized The Bible and theological study as the basis for the preservation and development of the essence of nation.
