Abstract

Title:Philosophy for children and violence prevention
Abstract:
Although philosophy is not one of the mandatory courses in our primary and secondary education curricula, the significance of philosophy in human life cannot be overlooked. One can claim that philosophy represents a crucial part of an individual personal as well as social development. It is our consciousness, awareness and the ability to think about thinking that makes humans unique. However, the developments the society has been facing have brought about a moral failure, degradation and the importance of individualism that often result in losing the root of what it means to be a human being. Therefore, the tendency to return to philosophy should be addressed in the current education system as well. The philosophy for children should be the basis on which human curiosity could be used in order to reflect on crucial philosophical ideas. It is one’s curiosity that drives individuals towards meeting their objectives. The philosophy for children is based on the idea that philosophers are often like little children who constantly ask questions. They are truly interested in the world they live in. This way children can realize that it is their right as well as their obligation to be active, responsible and willing to learn. The concept of lifelong learning focuses on developing key competences such as critical thinking and communication. Providing philosophical discussions can have positive impacts on the society.
