Abstract

Title:Cosimo de Medici as a patron of art-example of the Medici-Riccardi palace
Abstract:
The thesis researches Cosimo de' Medici as an early renaissance patron of art with the emphasis on his key commission, the Medici-Riccardi palace. Although banking was his primary activity, Cosimo was in fact a man of many interests, such as in philosophy, art and antique authors. Thanks to favourable conditions in Florence and to a current good position of the Medici family in society, he was able to finance numerous church renovations and build prophane buildings, a palace in the city centre, among others. The palace enabled Cosimo to fully express his artistic taste and to establish his position in the Florentine society. The architect Michelozzo, with whom Cosimo also developed a friendly relationship, designed the building.
