The first demand bank guarantee represents one of the instruments for insuring transactions to protect the interests of business partners. The main safeguard and purpose are that the beneficiary of the guarantee can quickly recover the damage done to him by the applicant of the guarantee.
The diploma thesis introduces the content of bank guarantees in greater detail. It presents their origin, their key elements, legal grounds, the process of issuing bank guarantees in a selected bank, possible abuse in the process of calling on the guarantee, etc. A special chapter is devoted to bank guarantees for the insurance of a customs debt. It also focuses on the number of issued guarantees for customs and excise duties in favor of the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Afterwards, the data are compared and on the basis of the results, the first hypothesis is either confirmed or refuted.
The research part contains an analysis of bank guarantees in the selected bank in 2017 and 2018, for which the data were collected and presented in the form of graphs. Based on the obtained results, it has been determined how many guarantees were issued in a particular year, which type of guarantee prevailed, how many of them were called on in a particular year, etc. The results were again used to confirm or refute the second hypothesis.
In the final part the e-guarantees project is presented, which was designed by the selected bank and is still in the making. The thesis presents the project's purpose and describes the procedure of issuing a bank guarantee through an application.
The expectations for the project are very high and if the realization of the project will be successful, it will enable a faster process of issuing guarantees and will facilitate the work of clients and employees. Considering that the selected bank will offer a faster and simpler issuing of guarantees than other banks, it is also expected that the number of clients will increase, which will, of course, be very beneficial for the bank.
