In this thesis I was dealing with existentialism, its origin and representative writers, I was primarily focusing on evolution of philosophy of existence in France and Slovenia. Based on two novels The Stranger and The Man on Both Sides of the Wall I analysed the use of existential elements in literature. Despite the fact that the first novel can also be classified as absurd novel, we can draw parallels between them. In both novels the protagonist has an identity crisis and feels alienated from the world. Albert Camus's protagonist completely gave up on the world, but Zorko Simčič left him the last glimmer of hope.
