Abstract
Konstrukta emocionalna inteligentnost in kakovost partnerskega odnosa sta v psihologiji dokaj nova konstrukta, ki sta postala predmet raziskovanja šele v zadnjih tridesetih letih.

Title:The relations between emotional intelligence and the quality of a romantic relationships
Abstract:
The construct of emotional intelligence and the quality of a romantic relationship are quite new in psychology, and have become the subject of research in the last thirty years. However, since we are facing the problem of a high divorce rate in the countries of the western world and also in Slovenia, we are primarily interested in the cause of the separation and the difficulties that arise in romantic relationship. This was one of the main reasons why we decided to explore the relations between the constructs of emotional intelligence and the quality of the romantic relationship. The purpose of our research was to establish the relationship of emotional intelligence with the quality of the romantic relationship on the Slovenian sample. Our research involved 100 people who were over 20 years old and have been in a romantic relationship for at least one year. The sample included 55% of women and 45% of men. We obtained data using an online questionnaire. The results have shown that general emotional intelligence is associated with the subscale of the support in a relationship. The subscale of the ESCQ questionnaire, the ability to express and label emotions positively, correlates with the subscale of the support, and negatively with the subscale of the conflict, while both correlations are low. The subscale of the ability to manage and regulate emotions, is significantly related to the subscale support on the QRI. The results showed that there are no differences between individuals who have children compared to individuals who do not have children on the self-assessment of emotional intelligence and the quality of a romantic relationship. There were also differences between individuals with lower education (V-th degree or less) compared to individuals with higher education (VI-th degree, or above) on the self-assessment of emotional intelligence and the quality of a romantic relationship. The results of our research also showed that the results of the ESCQ subscales are an important predictor of support and conflict (subscales on the QRI questionnaire). Based on the results in our research, we conclude on the importance of emotional intelligence in a romantic relationship, and the importance of further research in this area.
