Abstract
Z založniki in katalogizatorji smo izvedli intervjuje, opravili smo ekspertno študijo sistemov za vpis metapodatkov in z isto metodo analizirali prisotnost metapodatkov v spletnih knjigarnah. Ugotovitve slednje študije smo primerjali z rezultati spletne ankete z bralci.

Abstract:
Slovenian book market is currently facing problems regarding nonstandard procedures and tasks for describing and transmitting book information. The purpose of dissertation is to establish an improved metadata framework for the book market, which would optimize a book description and its presentation in information systems. The backbone for this task was the LRM model (Library Reference Model), the successor of the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) which was also proven efficient on other fields. To analyze the current state of metadata on the book market, we conducted nine studies using variety of research methods. In the research carried out between March 2015 and July 2018, we wanted to examine all the essential players in the book’s life cycle. Firstly, we conducted interviews with publishers and catalogers. We also used an expert study of metadata entry systems and analyzed the presence of metadata in online bookstores. We compared the findings of the latter study with the results of an online survey with the readers. Regarding user-generated data, we carried out a content analysis of online book reviews on various book-related platforms, where we also conducted an expert study of the tools for managing reviews. Finally, we tested a different method design for organizing and displaying book reviews using interviews and a task solving method. The results confirmed that creating, organizing and presenting book data according to the LRM model would help to improve metadata management in different stages of a book’s life cycle and could solve current problems in this field.
