A certain amount of stress is normal in everyday life. However, it can spread quickly and become unbearable. Unless people manage to control the balance between positive and negative stress it can lead to a burnout. Stress does not affect only individuals but also whole organizations and even the whole economy.
The purpose of this thesis is to thoroughly study stress and conduct a survey in a chosen organization. I want to find out if and to what extent the employees are exposed to stress at a workplace.
The results of the survey show, that the employees in the tested organization feel a certain amount of stress, however, it does not result in having considerable health problems. Namely, a large part of respondents have never been absent from work due to health problems at their workplace. The respondents also do not have a habit of taking sedatives like cigarettes, coffee, alcohol etc. On average, employees in a chosen organization are most likely to face exhaustion and the least frequently depression and anxiety. The two most common factors that cause stress are poor communication with lack of information and work overload. Nevertheless, the respondents mostly agree that private difficulties do not affect stress at work. Most of the employees try to avoid stress with recreation.
The results also show that the employees think that the responsible management does not concentrate enough to prevent and control negative stress in a chosen organization. Therefore, I suggest to introduce novelties like providing more information about stress, learning about stress management at work, as well as improvement on informing employees about relevant data and changes in the organization. One of the stress management proposals could be rest breaks at work and short workouts including stretching exercises. Such methods might lead to restoring positive energy resulting in work that is more efficient.
