In the effective functioning of local authorities, political leadership plays an important role, as it is often associated with the shift from a classical traditional local authority to more fragmented and decentralized networks. The attempts to effectively cope with the various crises we have witnessed in recent decades have shown the need for more responsible political leadership. Although the first impressions of political leadership have been found in Antiquity, scientific research on political leadership represents a major challenge for all researchers in the field of social sciences, since political leadership involves not only the activities of individuals at national level but also at the local level. It is at the local level in Slovenia, as far as political leadership is concerned and women's involvement in local politics, municipal councils, which still quite closed to women. Although many researchers say that more and more women are involved in local politics, the real picture with concrete data is somewhat different. The purpose of the thesis is to determine how the share of women in municipal councils of Pomurska municipalities changed during the three local elections (2006, 2010, 2014) and investigate the role of women councilors in managing Pomurje municipalities.
