Abstract
Svetlobno občutljivi tekočekristalni elastomeri (SO-TKE) so nadgradnja precej bolj znanih tekočekristalnih elastomerov (TKE). Direktna povezava med orientacijo svetlobno občutljivih mezogenov in obliko polimerne verige tem materialom omogoča, da se na osvetljevanje odzovejo z makroskopsko spremembo svoje oblike. Po drugi strani pa jim z elastično deformacijo lahko spremenimo optične lastnosti. V svojem magistrskem delu sem omenjene pojave raziskovala na dva različna načina, in sicer z določanjem optične anizotropije vzorca in s polarizacijsko optično mikroskopijo. V prvi seriji eksperimentov sem v različnih smereh postopoma raztezala SO-TKE ter z meritvijo transmisije testnih žarkov različnih valovnih dolžin opazovala spremembo orientacije optične osi in spremembo absorpcijske anizotropije. V drugem delu raziskav pa me je zanimal predvsem vpliv linearno polarizirane zelene svetlobe (λ=532nm) na optične lastnosti materiala, ko je bila vpadna polarizacija ali vzporedna ali pravokotna ali pa orientirana pod nekim poljubnim kotom glede na optično os vzorca. Zanimal me je tudi vpliv intenzitete zelene svetlobe na morebitno optično inducirano reorientacijo direktorja, zato sem spreminjala moč vzbujevalnega žarka ter pri različnih raztezkih vzorca merila prepustnost testnega žarka (λ=633nm).

Title:Structural anisotropy of light-sensitive liquid crystal elastomers
Abstract:
Light sensitive liquid crystal elastomers (LS-LCE) are a special class of the well-known liquid crystal elastomers (LCE). The coupling between orientation of photosensitive mesogenic groups and the shape of polymer chain enables mechanical deformations induced by optical illumination. On the other hand, elastic deformation of LCEs can affect their optical properties. In my master's thesis LS-LCEs are investigated in two different ways, namely by measuring optical absorption anisotropy of the sample and by polarization optical microscopy. In the first series of experiments LS-LCE was gradually expanded and modifications in the orientation of the optical axis were monitored by measuring the transmission of probe beams of different wavelengths. In the second part of the thesis, the influence of linearly polarized optical beam at λ=532nm on optical properties of the material for incident polarization being parallel, perpendicular and at some arbitrary angle with respect to the optical axis is studied. The intensity of acting beam is changed and transmission of the probe beam (λ=633nm) is analised at different extensions of the sample.
