Abstract

Title:Support to military families in case of death of an active duty service memeber: case study United States
Abstract:
Military families that play an important role in the life of service memebers are faced with many challenges that the military life brings along. Despite not always being recognized as relevant, the role of the military families slowly gained importance throughout history. The United States developed a special relationship towards its members of the armed forces and their families, being aware that the readiness of the service memebers to remain on active duty heavily depends on the satisfaction and quality of life of their families. In this regard, the federal government now offers them numerous benefits, such as health care, financial support, discounts and other forms of support that the servicemen and their family memebrs can take advantage of during their time in the armed forces. At the same time, military families are well aware that the life in the military is closely tied to several risks such as elevated stress, work related injury or even death and that it takes a lot of understanding and hardship to persevere. Numerous military families are in fact faced with the grief and sorrow after losing a family memeber that passed away in the line of duty. To support these families, the United States developed several social and financial programs that assist them after the death of their loved ones. However, none of these assistance programs and support initiatives can fully address all the issues the military families face during and after such unfortunate events.
