Nowadays, it is a challenge for employed fathers to balance their professional and family life. It is highly desired, if not required, that they spend their professional and family time productively and well. For this, several factors are needed: a person's comprehensive approach, mutual cooperation in the family environment, and cooperation from employers and the state.
The purpose of this diploma thesis was to determine how men understand and realize their role in the family, in caring for and raising children, and their involvement in household chores. The research was carried out using the survey method.
It has been established that the patriarchal tradition is losing its significance. More and more fathers are caring for and raising their children and performing several household chores on their own initiative. Most of them take paternity leave, because their first contact with the newborn and the time they spend with their families are important to them. Fathers with managerial jobs find it harder to take paternity leave. Chores such as cooking, ironing, cleaning of apartments and windows are still more often done by their female partners.
In order to promote a greater involvement of fathers, it should be ensured that fathers are informed, primarily regarding the importance of the equal sharing of work between both parents and the importance of the father's role in a child's development, while promoting the introduction of the Family-Friendly Company Certificate into organizations.
