The goal of the thesis is to analyze the phenomenon and the concept of charisma. Charisma is usually defined as a power whos source is found in exceptional personality qualities, such as uniqueness, heroism. Because of these characteristics, the person attracts others who follow, useing emotional-intensive speech, terminology, performs unrealistic miracles, which seems in the eyes of followers like a divine supernatural power. However, since the person's charisma can be judged only on the basis of its influence on others, it is also necessary to analyze followers, as well as the social and political context, within which the influence of a charismatic person takes place. On the basis of Freud's theory of mass psychology and Adorn's analysis of fascist propaganda, I am analyzing an example of a religious cult led by Jim Jones who guided his followers even to their death. In the analysis I proceed from the assumption that charism is a relational phenomenon who is shaped in certain social conditions, followers on the other hand have a much more active role in this process, as it seems at first glance.
