Optomehanski razvoj laserskega ročnika za uporabo v dentalni medicini

Abstract
Z razvojem laserske tehnologije so se na trgu pojavili laserski ročniki, ki v določenih aplikacijah dopolnjujejo ali nadomeščajo obstoječe konvencionalne ročnike s svedrom. Zaradi lastnosti laserske svetlobe se je njihova uporaba v dentalni medicini močno povečala. Posegi so čistejši in za pacienta prijetnejši, ker občuti manj operativnih in pooperativnih bolečin. Pri laserskem sistemu svetlobo po optičnem vlaknu pripeljemo do ročnika. Glede na vrsto aplikacije lahko na konec ročnika namestimo vlakenske konice različnih debelin. Glavni izziv je zasnovati optični sistem, ki s čim večjim izkoristkom in ponovljivostjo prenese lasersko svetlobo med vstopnim in izstopnim optičnim vlaknom (vlakensko konico). V procesu razvoja izdelka z določitvijo ciljnih specifikacij in pregledom konkurenčnih rešitev podamo nekaj možnih optičnih rešitev. Izvedemo optične preračune in se na podlagi teh odločimo za najustreznejši optični element, za katerega se izkaže GRIN leča. Po izdelavi konceptov, izbiri materiala in postopka obdelave izdelamo prototip. Končni izdelek ima moderen in ergonomski videz, poleg tega pa je vodotesen in odporen na vplive iz okolice. Z laboratorijskimi meritvami prototipa pri vlakenskih konicah premera 200 μm izmerimo izkoristke izhodnih moči, podobne pričakovanim, in sicer 77 % proti ocenjenim 80 %. Poleg tega pa razvijemo ročnik z boljšim izkoristkom in ponovljivostjo od konkurenčnih ročnikov, ki so že prisotni na trgu. Pokažemo tudi, kako na izhodno moč vpliva spreminjanje aksialne razdalje med lečo in zamenljivo vlakensko konico ter vrtenje vlakenske konice.

Title:Optomechanical development of a dental laser handpiece
Abstract:
Development of laser technology has led laser handpieces to gain popularity. Due to good characteristics of laser light, their use in dental medicine has greatly increased. That's why in certain applications they complement or replace existing conventional drill handpieces. Surgeries are cleaner and more favorable for the patients, as they feel less operative and postoperative pain. Light travels from the laser source down the optical fiber to the handpiece. Depending on the type of application, the fiber tips of different thicknesses can be placed at the end of the handpiece. The main challenge is to design an optical system that transfers laser light between the input and output fiber (fiber tip), with retaining maximum efficiency and repeatability. In the process of product development, we defined some target specifications, reviewed competitive products and came up with a number of possible optical solutions. We made optical calculations and chose the most suitable lens. After creating design concepts and selecting suitable materials, we made a prototype handpiece. It is modern, ergonomic, waterproof and resistant to external influences. Laboratory measurements show that the output power efficiency of the designed handpiece (77%) is similar to the expected 80%. In addition, we developed a handpiece with better efficiency and repeatability than some competitive handpieces already present on the market. We also measured how the change of axial distance between lens and fiber tip or rotating the fiber tip affects the output power.
