Abstract

Title:A divide between science and art
Abstract:
The master’s thesis deals with the supposed division between the science and the arts. Does a divide between them really exist and how does this look like in practice? A number of authors who deal with the connection between the science and the arts are presented first. They are followed by photographers who record scientific discoveries. Furthermore, the exploring the scientific photography – X-ray photography is presented. The thesis describes its discovery, the use of X-rays today, and the artists who create using X-ray images. I chose the X-ray photography because I am drawn to its appearance. Contrasted, dark photographs and the motif which is (in principle) unrecognizable, unknown and invisible to the eye, and yet it is there. The last part of the paper features a chapter on abstraction linked to practical work. It is explained how to change the scientific photography into an artwork.
