Introduction: Medical hypnosis is a complementary method in medicine that relieves or eliminates pain and psychosomatic problems in patients in a clinical setting. Nevertheless, it's still used to a very small extent because of prejudice, fear and unknowledge about its nature. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to present the use of medical hypnosis in alleviating nursing problems. The aim of the thesis is to determine wich nursing problems are alleviated by medical hypnosis, who are its performers, and what are the contraindications for implementation. Methods: A descriptive method was used with an overview of the original and reviews of professional-scientific articles published over the past 10 years. The literature was searched from Academic Search Complete (EBSCOhost), ScienceDirect and CINAHL with Full text databases. In order to show the results, 30 studies were included in the analysis. The reliability of evidence was evaluated by a 4-point scale. Results: Medical hypnosis has proven to be an effective method in relieving and eliminating various types of pain, stress, anxiety-depressive symptoms, nausea and insomnia. It is effective in treating smoking addiction and speech problems in patients who are stuttering. Also, it slows down postoperative bleeding and accelerates burns healing. Consequently, it reduces the cost of treatment. It also affects the hearth rate of healthy persons. Medical hypnosis is mostly performed by doctors, psychologists and nurses. All practitioners have basic knowledge in the field of medicine and psychology, and have completed a hypnosis course. Contraindications for performing medicaly hypnosis are most often psychiatric and neurological diseases, and patients' low suggestibility. Discussion and conclusion: Medical hypnosis is an effective non-pharmacological method in medicine, which represents a novelty in reileving or eliminating nursing problems. It is important that a nurse in this field has expertise, without prejudice, which can give to patients. Especially for those in which pharmacological treatment doesn't give effect.
