Abstract

Title:Interventions of professional workers at work with drug addicts
Abstract:
With a frequent use of the illicit drugs and the emergence of addiction, certain consequences occur. They emerge at the individual level as well as at the social level of the illegal substance user. The use of the illegal substances is strongly connected to the occurrence of trouble in the area of their physical and mental health, with a deficit in the area of spirituality, growth of the impulsive behaviour, with the occurrence of crime and some other social problems. Professionals who are working with illicit drug addicts are facing different challenges, sometimes even crisis situations. This especially accounts for professionals in low-threshold programs, where their job is to work with long term addicts. In the empirical part, we will focus on the work of only one organisation of the low-threshold program, where we want to make sure which of actual interventions are used by the professionals at reducing the damage in the area of illicit drugs when it comes to certain situations like: violence, overdose and criminal act; and do the harm reduction interventions in their system seem successful. Study of this case is a research method which we will use and its intention is to answer all of the questions in the research. With this research we want to highlight the most important interventions while working with illicit drug addicts, to present their advantages and some disadvantages. We want to open a new space for a professional discussion and the possibility for further researching in this area.
