Abstract

Abstract:
In my barchelor's degree I am going to write about women's position in Antique drama. I have decided for the topic due to the fact that the Antique society was one of the most partriarchal societies, as we can mainly see from the fact that women were equal to slaves. Even thought they were disciminated and had minimum rights, at least not as many as men, some dramatists tried to put a different perspective on their everyday lifes. Women who have the main position in Antique's drama are: Antigone, Medea, Clytemnestra, Electra and Alcestis. The characters could not be more different and yet they have one particular feature in common: inferiority in their relations towards men. Some features, such as heroism, can only be found in particular drama personalities, in this case with Antigone and Medea. The women were mainly seen as mothers and housekeepers, as they are often seen even today. I decided to break down the wall of stereotypes built around women in Antique drama and show the opposite of men's vision on their value. That concerns Antique era as well as present times.
