The thesis Animal symbols in the Poetry of Dane Zajc studies symbols of animals in poetry of Dane Zajc. Dane Zajc uses a lot of different animals in his poems, in some poems animals are only the motif. I chosed poems in which animal motifs turn into symbols. Animal symbols were observed with the help of The Dictionary of Literary symbols by Michael Ferber and Dictionnaire des symboles by Jean Chevalier and Alain Gheerbrant. I explained the meanings of chosen animal symbols in different cultures and then analyzed their usage in three poetry collections through explicit poems. I focused on three poetry collections: Požgana trava, Jezik iz zemlje and Ubijavci kač, because in this poetry collections is very high the usage of different animals, which turn into symbols. The usage of animal symbols highly matches world view of Dane Zajc. The war had very big influence on Dane Zajc, this is why I assumed, that he used animals to express human in the world after the war.
