In the first part of the master's thesis, the history of collecting, recording and publishing collections and books of fairy tales in Europe and Slovenia is briefly presented. Furthermore, a comprehensive book collection Zlata ptica with 130 published books till 2018 (of which about 40 books are reprints), designed by Kristina Brenk in 1956, was also portrayed. One of the central book collection Zlata ptica: sto najlepših slovenskih pravljic (1988) is also described. The empirical part consists of a discussion about fairy tales with the motif of golden bird, which according to Uther (2011) bear the mark ATU 550, thus short descriptions of fairy tales are included in a chapter of the theoretical part.
We also present the life and work of Russian theoretician Vladimir Proppa entitled Zgodovinske korenine čarobne pravljice (first published adition in Russian in 1946, first translation adition in Slovenian in 2013) and the life and work of Slovene Folkloristics Monika Kropej Telban Pravljica in stvarnost (1995). The authors explore the theory of fairy tales in a similar way and draw similar conclusions, namely that in fairy tales we can find traces of the real past.
In the second part, the motifs of the following variants of the same fairytale type are analyzed in more detail: the Slovenian version entitled Zlata ptica (Valjavec, 2005 ) and O zlatem ptiču, najhitrejšem konju in od morskega dekleta (Kropej 1995 ), Grimm's version of the fairy tale of the same name (Grimm, 2012 ) and her older a version entitled White Pigeon (Bedenk and Blažić, 2018 ) and a Russian version titled About Carnival Ivan, the bark of the bird and the gray wolf (Afanasjev, 2007 ).
In the firt chapter of the empirical part the fairy tales were analyzed on the basis of Propp's work, in which the author uncovered a ritualistic interpretation of folk fairy tales. Individual types of fairy tales were compared. In this part, the focus was also on permanent categories and subcategories in fairy tales. Traces of reality in fairy tales were researched and further upgraded in the second chapter of the empirical part with the theory of Monika Kropej Telban.
On the basis of the comparative literary analysis, the aim of the master's thesis was to show the similarities and differences of the same fairy-tale type ATU 550 and to discover the elements of reality in fairy tales. Furthermore, the goal was to show that despite their different cultural and spatial elements, the models of folk fairy tales have some similar and some different elements.
Conclusions drawn from the theoretical and empirical part of the master's thesis can be used in our work in kindergarten. We will be able to familiarize children with Slovene folk tales and direct their attention to the most important cultural features present in individual fairy tales as well as with the help of various determined motives place fairy tales in the international space.
