This mastersꞌ thesis deals with death anxiety, including anxiety of oneꞌs own death. Since we do not have our own death experience, neither rational explanations give us satisfying and reassuring answers, we turn to greater, worldwide religions. The greatest attention within this paper is drawn to Christianity, which prevails in our country.
The teoretical part explains terms, such as death, death anxiety and dying. Furthermore, the topics are presented from the views of spirituality, psychology, medicine, anthropology and partially history as well. We observe that most of the people never talk about death due to death anxiety; they are nor prepared for it, which is why they are not familiar with the topic. Finally, the teoretical part presents some research work related to individualsꞌ testimonies of near-death experience and afterlife.
The empirical part focuses on the relation of death anxiety and the power of religious faith. We especially want to find out whether the respondents of our research feel more or less death anxiety due to the power of their faith. The results of the research show that there is no connection of the power of religious faith and the respondentsꞌ death anxiety.
Our mastersꞌ thesis shows in what ways death anxiety can bereave us of a beautiful, tranquil and fully lived life. This is why we should dedicate our time to truly important things in life, so that we will not regret on our death bed the things we have not done in our lives due to several excuses.
