In this thesis, we wanted to determine the characteristics of the previous training of recreational runners participating in the Preparation Programme for the Volkswagen Ljubljana Marathon and compare them in terms of basic parameters such as age and running experience. We were interested in training volume, training intensity, training frequency, and training type. We observed three shorter periods before the start of the Preparation Programme for the Volkswagen Ljubljana Marathon. 70 recreational runners participated in the study. Considering the age category, we found the greatest amount of training in the youngest age group of runners. When comparing the training volume based on experience, it was found that participants with more than 10 years of running experience trained the most. They also had the lowest heart rate throughout all three periods of the previous training. We also found that most runners perform warm-ups with gymnastic exercises and that only a few runners perform gymnastic stretching in the final part of the training.
