Abstract

Title:Popularization of science: a case study Znanost na cesti
Abstract:
Different aspects nowadays are showing the great meaning of science involvement into broad society context. Therefore the main focus of this thesis is the process of science popularization, where I focus on broad or general public. Some other concepts, which importantly contributed to the meaning of science in society and development of public communication of science, are also explained. Chosen subject is then set into the mediatization process frame, with historical overview of media reporting about science and some of the new trends in science communication are presented. The latest are indicating on new possibilities of bringing science closer to the general public. Further on is a case study called Znanost na cesti. With the help of material overview I go deeper into how the chosen project is working. Based on personal interview, which was done with the member of this project, I focus on cooperation between journalists and scientists in reporting of scientific findings of this project. Project Znanost na cesti is successfully spreading onto different events, where exposed Slovenian scientists report about their achievements and form an open dialog with the audience. It is about new ways of bringing science closer to the public, and representation is running in simpler and more attractive way in informal spaces. As I discover, the journalists truly represent the role of moderators, whereas the scientists are left with the decision about the content and the style of reporting. Moreover, the journalists also contribute to the selection of guesting scientists and preparation for the presentation itself.
