The period of economic and financial crisis has put young people in one of the most vulnerable target groups. Unemployment and employability of young people in Europe are issues of the present and the future. Therefor, active employment policy (further APZ) returned with its activation role. Its main goal is to improve the functioning of the labor market by returning unemployed persons through various ways to the sphere of work to maintain a high level of employment. Because of the difficult transition from the education system to the labor market, I decided that a target group of my master's thesis will be young people. Their uncomfortable position in the labor market increases the lack of work experience, knowledge and competences, and often also the disparity between supply and demand for jobs for young people. In the master's thesis I present the APZ measures that Slovenia has implemented during the recession through various APZ programs, and I give a final evaluation of the success of the APZ measures for young people. Despite the fact that the situation on the labor market is improving, I want my findings to contribute to the practical solution of the public policy problem of youth employment policy in Slovenia. My intention is to show what we learned in the financial crisis and how to react if there would be a recurring economic breakdown or if Slovenia would again find itself in a similar economic situation.
