Abstract

Title:PROBLEM OF PATELLAR TENDINOPATHY IN BASKETBALL
Abstract:
Patellar tendinopathy is the overuse injury of the patellar tendon (ligament) which appears as pain in the front portion of the knee. The purpose of this thesis is to determine the main risk factors for the onset of the patellar tendinopathy in basketball and suggest exercise types for its treatment and for the elimination of all these through the knowledge of scientific literature. The correctional approaches for the biomechanical deficits are also presented in the thesis, yet a thorough and precise injury prevention training plan is not due to its complexity and as it exceeds the topic frames of this particular thesis. At the same time the training planning is in the domain of every trainer in person since they know the needs and the features of their athletes best. The anatomy of the knee join from the perspective of the bone, the muscle and the connective tissue is presented in the introduction. This particular part of the thesis also encompasses the presentation of the most frequent injuries in basketball and places patellar tendinopathy among them. The onset of overuse injury is also described in the introduction. The main part encompasses the findings of different authors and lists the causes for the onset of patellar tendinopathy. Concurrently two other injuries of the patellar tendon which must not be misidentified with the patellar tendinopathy are also presented. Additionally, this part includes the internal and the external risk factors for patellar tendinopathy and also a description of two most prominent exercise protocols during the patellar tendinopathy treatment. The thesis concludes with the summary of scientific findings along with the critical estimation of the treatment and the prevention exercises. It finishes with thoughts on the future research on the topic.
