The objective of my thesis was to design a modern women’s collection, inspired by handweaving techniques. The inspiration came from the interlaced threads in weave baskets and led to research and experiments with the handweaving technique.
Theoretical part of the thesis thoroughly explains the weaving technique, its history and development and its usage in the modern world, especially in fashion. I explored the development of digital printing and laser cutting and their usage in the modern fashion collections.
Experimental part represents the whole process of designing a collection based on a handwoven texture. It explains the methods that led to the chosen technique and its integration into the collection. It also elaborates the process of choosing colours and materials.
